Dynamic Canines Policies

Let's be on the same page!

Our goal for you, whether through private training or group classes, is the best training results possible. Because our policies are designed with this goal in mind, we enforce them actively. Please take a few moments to read through this page to make sure we’ll be on the same page together toward reaching your training goals.

Thank you, and we look forward to working with you!  -Rose Browne, Dynamic Canines Owner & Lead Trainer

Group Training Class Policies

Is group class right for your dog?

  • If you’ve ever been stressed out in a classroom or work environment, you know how hard it is to learn when your mind is clouded with worries. Research has shown that learning is actively hindered by fear and stress in dogs as well as humans. If your dog tends to be uncomfortable around other dogs, new people, or in new environments and situations, private training may be a better fit than group classes.

  • Signs of discomfort can be subtle, like hiding behind your legs or shutting down and becoming less responsive, or more overt like barking or lunging. If you’re uncertain whether group class is a good fit for your dog and your training goals, please feel free to reach out to us before registering. We’d be happy to help set you and your dog up for the best success.

  • Please note that we reserve the right to remove dogs from class for their own well-being as determined by an instructor, or should an instructor deem a dog is disruptive to the learning of other dogs or students in class. Should an instructor feel you and your dog would be better served outside of class, we’ll issue a partial refund for unused class sessions and chat about putting that refund toward private training if you’d like to continue to work together toward your training goals in a lower pressure environment. In short, we’ll do everything we can to get you what you need.

  • Same goes for removing students disruptive to others, so please be courteous of fellow learners. No refund will be made to students being asked to leave the classroom.

  • Oh, one more thing: Dogs must, of course, be healthy and free from contagious disease to attend class.

Attendance, cancellation, and refund policies

  • If all one had to do to enjoy a well-mannered, responsive dog was sign up for class, life would be easy. But, alas, actual attendance is critical to the success of your training outcomes. With that in mind, and in order for us to maintain small class sizes for better learning for all, we have a strict attendance policy and do not provide make-up classes for missed sessions.

  • You may schedule a paid private one-on-one session to make up a missed class session, but that costs extra, so it’s best to be sure the class you are considering works in your schedule.

  • Dogs with true veterinary emergencies and a doctor’s note are given an exception, but before you ask for a make-up be sure your dog’s emergency qualifies: We allow make-up sessions only for infectious disease, injuries that prevent mobility, and surgeries that were not pre-planned. (Spay/neuter surgeries are pre-scheduled and do not count for make-up sessions.) Alternatively, you are welcome to attend without your dog to keep momentum going at home.

  • As our class sizes are limited, we are not able to provide full refunds once registration has been paid. If you've paid your registration and there is a change in your schedule which prevents you from attending classes a partial refund (less $100.00 admin fee) will be issued up to 24hrs in advance of your class start date.  Alternatively, if you wish to attend another set of classes at a later date, a partial credit (less $50.00 admin fee) will be issued and will be valid for up to one year after the issue date.

  • NO refunds (no exceptions!) will be issued once your scheduled class* has started so please ensure that the class works for you prior to completing your registration.  *Orientation is class #1 for Puppy & Adult Manners.

  • Of course, if we have to cancel a class due to extreme weather or other uncontrollable circumstances we’ll add another class session to the end of your program to make sure you get all you paid for.

If all this sounds good, let’s get you scheduled for class!

Puppy Start Right Training Class Policies

Health and vaccination policies

  • Prior to starting class puppies must have at least one Distemper-Adenovirus 2-Parvo (DAP) vaccine or equivalent from their puppy doctor at least 10 days prior to their first class, as well as a proactive dose of de-worming medication. We’ll need proof of your first vaccination, which you can submit via email or when picking up your Puppy Right Start package.

  • To protect your pup’s schoolmates, please do not bring your puppy to class if she seems ill. Signs of illness include vomiting, diarrhea, listlessness or lack of energy, coughing, sneezing, yellow or green nasal or eye discharge, skin lesions or hair loss. Also, do not bring your puppy if she has signs of fleas.

Attendance, cancellation, and refund policies

  • Consistent attendance is critical to your puppy’s early socialization process. This is the time in your pup’s life when her view of and stance toward the world is formed. To enjoy a relaxed, friendly, easy-going adult dog later requires consistent attention to your puppy’s socialization training now. With that in mind, and in order for us to maintain small class sizes for better learning for all, we have a strict attendance policy and do not provide make-up classes for missed sessions.

  • You may schedule a paid private make-up session to make up a missed class session, but that costs extra, so if you must miss a session it’s best for your puppy and your pocketbook to send your puppy to class with an adult family member or friend invested in your pup’s life.

  • Puppies with true veterinary emergencies and a doctor’s note are given an exception, but before you ask for a make-up be sure your pup’s emergency qualifies: We allow make-up sessions only for infectious disease, injuries that prevent mobility, and surgeries that were not pre-planned.

  • Do to the open enrollment structure of puppy classes, you can change your confirmed start date up to two weeks in advance of the start date free of charge. Changes after this time will incur a $40+HST. That said, we highly recommend getting your puppy into class as young as possible to make the most of your puppy’s socialization period.

  • As our class sizes are limited, we are not able to provide full refunds once registration has been paid. If you've paid your registration and there is a change in your schedule which prevents you from attending classes a partial refund (less $100.00 admin fee) will be issued up to 24hrs in advance of your class start date.  However, should a puppy become ill during the course and unable to finish, a partial credit (less $100.00 admin fee and pro-rated) may be issued for another class. We just need a letter from your pup’s vet within one week of your pup missing class.

  • NO refunds (no exceptions!) will be issued once your scheduled class has started so please ensure that the class  works for you prior to completing your registration.

  • Of course, if we have to cancel a class due to extreme weather or other uncontrollable circumstances we’ll add another class session to the end of your program to make sure you get all you paid for.

  • Finally, all family members or friends involved in your puppy’s training and life are welcomed (and encouraged!) to attend with you, including children. We ask that each child (under the age of 10) is accompanied by an additional adult so you can more easily focus on your puppy and your puppy’s instructor.

Private Training Policies

Payment policies

  • Payment for initial consultations is due at the time of the appointment. Payment for private training packages can be made up front to take advantage of our discounted package rates as posted on our website, or on a session-by-session basis at the non discounted hourly rate.

  • Extra charges will be applied for the initial consult if requesting a consult for two dogs in the same household.

  • Pre-paid packages must be pre-paid. This is the only way to receive the package discount training rate.

  • Clients paying session-by-session must provide payment for each session at each session.

Mileage charges

  • Because extra travel reduces the number of clients we can serve, mileage charges apply for private training sessions outside St. John’s metro*.  Tell us in an email or phone call where you live and we’ll give you the exact fee to factor into whether we’re the right fit for you and your dog.

  • *Metro areas include: Chamberlains, Foxtrap, Kelligrews, Long Pond, Logy Bay, Manuels, Middle Cove, Mount Pearl, Outer Cove, Paradise, Portugal Cove-St. Philips, Topsail, Torbay and Upper Gullies.

Cancellation policies

  • Consistency is a central key to success in training. Our modern lives tend to be busy, complicated, and over-booked, but cancelling or postponing training sessions is actively detrimental to your progress and ultimate success in reaching your training goals.

  • For this reason, and out of respect for our schedules and other clients waiting for the appointment spots we offer, all appointments cancelled or postponed with the exception of a veterinary emergency (proof is required) with less than one full week’s notice (7 days) will be billed, and we will not be able to schedule your next appointment until payment is received.
